can't keep this one out though! Kumara finishes things off with a yorker, and completes a four-wicket haul. This was perfectly in the blockhole and headed towards off stump. Khaled, to his credit, did get the bat down, and did make contact, but was late with the shot and only deflected it back on to his pads, and then into middle and leg.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 2nd Test at Chattogram, BAN v SL, Mar 30 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
That's all from us. We'll catch you on the next series. Madushka Balasuriya's report should be up soon, and Mohammad Isam will have the analysis and post-match press conferences covered. This is Fidel signing off on behalf of those two gents, and also Shashwat, who has been part of our coverage. Take it easy.
So that's it from this tour. Sri Lanka, fair to say, emerge with the overall honours. Sri Lanka had won the T20Is 2-1, before Bangladesh hit back with a 2-1 ODI series victory. The Lankan sweep of the two Tests, though, means they finish by far the happier side. It's also been a tour of a little needle, but nothing crazy. Fair to say there is tension between these sides, but nothing spilled over dramatically.
Dhananjaya de Silva: "The bowlers did their basics on this wicket, and the batters did their job as well. The batters were a bit disappointed about not getting runs in the first Test, but we have experienced players. I was confident they would get runs."
"There wasn't a lot of spin on offer, so I thought about reverse swing as a way to get wickets. The pacers were really on the spot. We have tours of England and South Africa coming up. I have faith in my fast bowlers."
Kamindu: "Asitha Fernando said sorry many times after the run out in the first innings. In the last few months I'm working really hard on my bowling with the spin bowling coach. In this innings I was very confident about my right arm, so I kept going with that. In the Sylhet match it was quite hard to bat. Credit goes to the captain who also got two centuries."
Kamindu Mendis is Player of the Match for his 92 in the first innings, and his 3 for 32 with the ball in the second innings. Unsurprisingly, (he was also PoTM in the first match), he is also Player of the Series.
Shanto: "If you look at our batting everyone got set but didn't get a big score. That's something to think about. If you get set you have to make a score. We have to play more first-class cricket.
The way Hasan Mahmud bowled was a positive. Shakib bowled and batted really well, and Mehidy Hasan also batted well."
The presentation has started now. Here's Bangladesh captain Shanto is up first.
10:30: The big take-away from the series, though, is Sri Lanka's seam bowling. It was fitting that the series ended witha Kumara dismissal, because the Lankan quicks have accounted for 33 of the 40 Bangladesh wickets to fall, and have consistently threatened to make breakthroughs. They've done so with swing and seam, but also with excellent bouncers, yorkers, and other uncomfortable lengths.
It's all over. Sri Lanka win by 192. Mehidy Hasan fought hard in this innings to finish with 81 off 110, but it was all a little insubstantial from everyone else. Bangladesh will be disheartened with the way they batted in this series, being shot out for less than 190 in three consecutive innings. That really is where Sri Lanka made the biggest headway.
And where in Sylhet Bangladesh had their moments of dominance, particularly on day one, it's fair to say that Sri Lanka have dominated right through this Chattogram match. They made 531 after winning the toss and batting, then locked Bangladesh out of the match by dismissing them for 178. Bangladesh were much better in the second dig, but had lost too much ground in the first innings.
yorker right in the blockhole, but Khaled was expecting that, and got his bat down in time to dig it out. Was headed to middle and leg stumps
shortish just wide of off, Khaled tries to drop the gloves and stay out of the way of that one
hits him on the gloves with a nasty one. This was short, getting up to about collarbone height, and all Khaled can do is get his bat in the way in self preparation. Ball thuds into his glove then falls on the pitch. Thankfully he is unhurt
short of a length ball at the body, Khalad gets bat to it and hits towards square leg
short ball outside off stump, Khaled tries to fend it away but doesn't get too close to it. Or does he? Sri Lanka barely appealed but they have reviewed this, because they have reviews to burn I guess. Not out though. Easily missing the gloves en route to the keeper
slower through the air, and Mehidy pulls out the big, flat sweep. Didn't quite get the length he wanted, but went through with the shot anyway and struck it well enough to get a four through square leg.
flatter through the air again, on about off stump, but defended
flatter again, angled more into the stumps, stays at home and blocks it out
beaten on the outside edge. This was slowed down and tossed up, pitching just outside off, drawing the forward defence, then beating it with spin
flatter one, pitched outside off and going on with the arm, Khaled gets a big stride in and defends
floated up just wide of off, Mehidy eases this down to long off but doesn't take the run
length ball at the stumps, Khaled stays in the crease and gets bat behind it
back of a length ball outside off to start, he fends this away behind point on the off side and they scamper two
Waddup people. Sri Lanka on the verge of a resounding series win. Let's see how long Bangladesh can make them work for it.
Khaled Ahmed is the new batter.
And with that it's drinks. Here's Fidel to take you through to lunch (or the end of the game).
And the bouncer does the trick! Too good for Mahmud. Bouncer into the body, and all Mahmud can do is fend this away. Just pops up to Madushka for an easy grab
Short of a length, rushes Mahmud. Fends this away, it strikes the glove but just wide of short leg
angled in quick on the stumps, but Mahmud shows the full face of the bat
full and straight, raps the pads as Mahmud is caught in the crease. Appeal for leg before, but this is clearly angling past leg stump
Jawad: "Whenever I see Mehidy bat while chasing it gives me hope because of that innings against India"
Sumptuous drive! Good length on off, and driven on the up. This gives the fielder a chase, but it just has enough legs to trickle into the ropes
good length on off, shapes away and squares him up. Played with soft hands though, as it goes to gully
