United Arab Emirates eased past Australia without losing a wicket in the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2001 being played at Kowloon Cricket Club in Hong Kong, on Saturday.
After being put in to bat, Australia could only gather 77 runs losing five wickets off their five overs. David Hookes (11 off six balls) and Dean Jones (5 off three balls) were snared by Miraj Khaliq (1-0-16-2).
Tom Moody and Brendon Julian were amongst runs against a determined UAE attack. Moody was the third wicket to fall off the final ball of the fifth over bowled by Ahmed Nadeem. The tall batsman from West Australia scored 26 runs off 14 balls with the help of four boundaries. Julian remained unbeaten on 27 made off 10 balls, striking four boundaries and a huge six.
UAE raced past the target with exactly one over to spare. They were given an explosive start by skipper Saeed-al-Saffar. He struck three sixes and four boundaries in his knock of 35 runs off just 11 balls before being retired not out. Moody suffered the most as Saeed-al-Saffar struck three fours and two sixes of his over, which went for 26 runs.
Khaif Gaury remained unbeaten on 26 off 11 balls, striking two sixes and two fours. Ahmed Nadeem remained three not out as UAE pulled of a stunning win.
