Jammu & Kashmir scored a convincing nine wicket victory over Haryana
in their North Zone Ranji Trophy tie at the Maulana Azad Stadium in
Jammu today. Resuming at 100/6, still 90 runs in arrears, a fighting
half century from rookie wicket keeper Ajay Ratra helped Haryana avoid
the ignominy of an innings defeat.
Ratra was last out for 77 (178 balls, 10 fours) to give new ball
bowler Abdul Qayoom his fifth wicket of the innings. The Haryana
innings terminated at 212 in the 80th over, to leave J&K with the not
difficult task of scoring 23 for victory. They lost opener Vidya
Bhaskar but R Bali and Kanwaljeet Singh finished off the job in the
sixth over to add eight points into the home team's kitty.
