At the launch the Director of Cricket for Durham CCC, Geoff Cook, had to demonstrate his alertness in fielding some astute cricket questions from children of the Cestria Primary School before the formal opening.
The IT centre is equipped with flat-screen PCs that fold away into desks when not needed. Bill Midgley, Chairman of Durham CCC, said: "We are keen to attract all sections of the community to the Riverside and to get maximum use of the tremendous facilities here.
"I am sure that the children will get stimulated by their surroundings and get real benefit from the whole experience of having a classroom in such an unusual setting."
It is hoped that hundreds of local children will benefit from these new facilities.
