Cricket Australia congratulates Stephen Waugh

On behalf of Australian cricket, Cricket Australia warmly congratulates Stephen Waugh as the third Australian Test captain to be named Australian of the Year.

Chief Executive Officer James Sutherland said Stephen Waugh, a veteran of 168 Tests and 325 one-day internationals, was a quintessentially Australian cricketer and Australian who had inspired a national and international following.

His worthy honouring would help lift the mood of a nation saddened by the tragic loss of another cricketer, David Hookes.
