Baburao Yadav fifth cricketer arrested in alleged fixing case

Former Vidarbha seamer Baburao Yadav has become the fifth cricketer to be arrested, by the Delhi Police, in connection with the alleged spot-fixing in the IPL. Yadav was produced in court in Delhi on Tuesday afternoon along with Rajasthan Royals' Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, who were arrested in the early hours of May 16 in Mumbai and then transferred to the Indian capital.

Amit Singh, a former Gujarat and Rajasthan Royals seamer turned bookmaker, is the other cricketer arrested, one among 11 bookies taken in on May 16 in connection with the case. Singh and the other bookies were also produced in court on Tuesday along with the cricketers.

Yadav, a medium pacer and handy lower-order batsman, played first-class and list-A cricket for Vidarbha and Twenty20 cricket for Railways. His six first-class games were played between the 2001-02 and 2004-05 seasons. Later, Yadav had played in the now-defunct Indian Cricket League for Ahmedabad Rockets and Hyderabad Heroes.

Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan, who were produced in court after five days of police detention, were remanded to a further five days in police custody - until May 26. While four bookies were remanded to judicial custody, the other eight - including, it is believed, Singh and Yadav - were returned to police custody with the IPL players.
