New Zealand make it three out of three

New Zealand's odds for winning the World Cup are likely to shorten following their third warmup victory at Arundel yesterday. The 16/1 outsiders for the tournament defeated Sussex by seven wickets yesterday with more than ten overs to spare, Craig McMillan yet again playing a starring role.

With no rain to affect play on the south coast of England, Sussex scored 219 for 5 from their fifty overs after captain Chris Adams won the toss and batted first. Adams, who played for England in last year's Texaco Trophy against South Africa, top scored with 73 from 81 balls. Tony Cottey made an unbeaten 34, while Richard Montgomerie scored 30 from 84 deliveries at the top of the order before hitting a return catch to Daniel Vettori. Geoff Allott's quota of ten overs was worth 2/35.

After another failure by Matthew Horne (7), Craig McMillan joined Roger Twose at the crease for a second-wicket stand of 134. After his devastating 86 on Monday, McMillan was ambling by comparison yesterday, taking 93 balls to score 95 (ten fours, one six). Twose made 56, followed by Stephen Fleming's 45-ball 48 not out. Chris Cairns was also unbeaten at the finish on 7, scored from two shots.

New Zealand's 223 for 3 came from 39.4 overs.
