Focusing positively will aid my recovery

When I was in hospital awaiting my operation last Friday I was thinking and hoping that this will be the last one I have to endure till the end of my career.

Then reality stepped in and I reminded myself that this is the industry I have chosen and that the body takes a massive load from what I do.

I'm not saying that I will need another one but sport is something where you cannot predict the future and injury is a by-product of what we do.

The best way to deal with injury is to accept it and put your focus towards your comeback.

Channel your thoughts into something positive because there is no point in feeling sorry for yourself and generating negativity.

The surgeon was happy with the way the op went and was quite alarmed at what he found inside the knee. There was quite extensive damage, which he felt he had repaired and was positive of a full recovery in six to eight months.

This was music to my ears and great news to wake up to in the recovery room. Now the long rehab process begins, but it does allow me a great opportunity to get better than I have been by utilising this recovery time intelligently and sensibly.

Eden Park on Sunday saw the return of Shoab Akhtar.

There was controversy in Aussie with allegations of throwing and they have now resurfaced here again.

Whether he throws or not is a decision for the ICC only.

But I was a little taken back by Akhtar's comments in the press this morning when he said that there has never been anything wrong with his action and when he was found guilty of throwing and ordered to alter his action by the ICC he never changed a thing.

Maybe the ICC need to revisit afresh Akhtar's thoughts today.

Great performance by Pakistan and with such a talented line up it is going to be tough for the Black Caps, they would've been desperate to start well and now the Pakistani's are ahead they could be hard to stop.

Sad to hear of Chris Doig's decision to leave NZC.

He has contributed enormously to the evolution of NZ Cricket during his tenure and has shown that the decision by the board to appoint someone from a non-cricket background and with business acumen has been an enormous success to the players and NZ Cricket as an organisation.

I wish him well on his next journey and every success professionally and personally in the years to ahead.
