The latest news in the buildup to the Wills International Cup, with 17 days remaining till the start:
  • Unprecedented security measures will be taken during the Wills International Cup. Apart from metropolitan police, army and plainclothes law enforcers will ensure security of the cricketers of the nine-test playing countries. As all the matches will be day-night, special arrangements will also be taken for security of the spectators, specially the women.
  • Bangladesh Cricket Board expects that the three practice grounds will be prepared by October 15. As confusion developed whether the tournament will be held in Dhaka or not, specially after the longest and worst deluge, the preparatory measures have slown down. After International Cricket Council (ICC) gave green signal that Dhaka would be host of the mini-world cup, the preparations resumed in full swing. However, there is still a confusion whether the dressing rooms of the practice grounds will be in international standard.
  • The BCB has received the design of tickets for spectators of the tournament from the ICC. Selling will start a week before the first ever knock-out world cup kicks-off. The amount from the gatemoney is expected as Tk 6 crore or 12 lakh US dollars.
  • ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya is daily monitoring the latest condition of the preparations via telephone from Calcutta.
  • Bangladesh Postal Department will publish special stamps on the occasion of the tournament. The tickets carrying logo of the tourney will highlight the spirit of the trophy "one world, one game".
  • Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will publish a colourful souvenir on the occasion of the mini-world cup. The main attraction of the nearly 165-page souvenir will be the profile of players of the nine test playing countries with their respective cricket board logo. It will also contain attractive descriptions of the capital Dhaka as well as some important places of the country. Ardent Marketing and Communications, a local media consultant has been given the charge to print 3,000 copies of the souvenir. It will also print 50,000 coloured posters, erect pandal over the entire stadium gallery and fix four gigantic balloons for the first ever knock-out world cup cricket. The BCB official said they will get about Tk 10 lakh (US dollars 20,000) in cash from Ardent Marketing for allowing them to publish the souvenir, placing the balloons and erecting pandal with advertisements.
